Motor Control's amiable Doug Pearman unlocks a rich knowledge bank for clients

Amiable Doug Pearman is the type of professional whom people want on their side when facing interesting challenges.

As Motor Control Centre (MCC) Project Engineer at K E Brown, he has been involved in some of the country's major infrastructure projects - works that demand service 24 hours a day if required.

"When you go home you take your laptop, because you have to be available when things need doing. You have to follow your project right through, from design and estimation on to execution and follow up. That's what keeps customers coming back," said Mr Pearman, who has more than 25 years electrical design and project management experience, specializing in motor control. He holds both electrical trades and electrical engineering certificates.

Projects on which he has been involved for
K E Brown include the North Head, Camden and current Coffs Harbour sewage treatment plants, and the George's River $100 million upgrade of sewerage systems in South-Western Sydney. Infrastructure works also include Sydney's M5 motorway, Eastern Distributor, Harbour Tunnel and the Sydney Desalination Plant, which is scheduled to supply up to 15 per cent of Sydney's drinking water from next year.

"We work alongside some of the biggest and best names in construction and infrastructure and become part of their teams. Working so closely, our knowledge and experience rubs off onto them and their knowledge and experience rubs off on us. It is a shared benefit.

"We get to know a lot of people and accumulate a lot of valuable knowledge over the years -

we develop a bank of contacts and knowledge that enhances the technology and solutions we design and custom manufacture. " said Mr Pearman, who works closely with MCC Production Manager Joe Lopez in K E Browns Prestons plant in Western Sydney.

The plant is highly experienced in customising MCC technology to the needs of particular projects and adapting to the ebb and flow of demanding projects. It also has a continuous manufacturing system to cater for Just In Time production of repetitious designs. Work in which the Prestons team has particular experience includes the manufacture of motor control and power factor correction technology, as well as new and replacement Switchgear and Control Gear Assemblies (SCAs) to AS/NZS 3439.1-2002 (IEC 60439.1-1999).

"People are one of our big strengths," says Doug Pearman. "We have a good stable team with shared objectives. We make it our business to know the customers business so we can add value and innovation to our design briefs. We build in quality and reliability because we go further to understand the task being asked of us, then provide a solution based those unique needs and our accumulated experience."
