Hardworking migrant makes most of KEB opportunity

K E Brown has nurtured a fine engineering talent in Project Supervisor Jalil Rouhi, who has progressed far since joining the company.

Hardworking and committed, Jalil qualified as an electrical engineer in his native Iran.

KEB spotted Jalil's talent and positive attitude, giving him the opportunity to work his way up from the factory floor. Now, as a supervisor, he designs all the major product types on AutoCAD and negotiates with suppliers and customers.

"Whilst the electrical standards in Iran are based on the IEC standards - the principles are the same. I'm able to use all my university knowledge here," Jalil said. "I'm very happy with my job and have the satisfaction of seeing each project I undertake completed."

Operations Manager Peter Silsby said: "Jalil is a focal point for our clients.

He meets with them on site and liaises with them during the project, as well as during upgrades.

"He's devoted to his work at KEB, completely vindicating the faith we placed in him when taking him on four years ago." Yet to start his own family, Jalil spends his spare time with his wife and enjoys fishing off the rocks near Wollongong.

"Australia was strange at first, with such a different culture and environment. My family was so far away. But now I see my future here," he said.
